Hoppy Friday friends!
So last weekend, Captain's retirement ceremony and party afterwards was absolutely incredible. It was such an honor to be there and share in the celebration. Captain always spoils me with lots of things, but little did I know she was going to take me to the most incredible place I have ever been.
We went onto the military base in Corpus Christi, TX. It looks like all the rest of the military bases I have been on, but this one was magical! She took me to the campground. Yes, the campground on the ocean. When we came around the bend, she said, "There they are!"
Smack dab in the middle of the campground were bunnies!!!!!! Well, jack rabbits. Big ol' jack rabbits! I couldn't believe my eyes!
I got out of the car and started taking photos as fast as I could.
"Hey everybun! That paparazzi bunny lady from North Carolina is here."
"She's here? Oh good! How do I look? Can you see my baby bump?"
Then, as usual, my over active imagination started to take over. Lots of Hispanic folk live in Corpus Christi. Needless to say, I believe these rabbits all speak with a Spanish accent.
"Hey Senora! What's the big idea interrupting our siesta?
Then I saw this handsome fella. He told me his name was Raul.
I asked Raul if he was worried about the big dog on the picnic table behind him.
"Senora, that is Renaldo the Rottweiler. I employ him as the bouncer in my hip hop club. You know hares can get a bit "wild."
"Us? Wild hares? Never."
Haaaaaaaaaaaaa! I crack myself up! I'm such a dorkwad!
Honestly though, I have never seen anything like this and I probably never will again. It was amazing. I wanted to camp out in the middle of the grass all day.
I told Captain that her retirement ceremony was the best part of my trip, but this was second best for sure. Thank you for such a special gift Captain. I loved it.
Hoppy Friday! We'll see you back here on Monday.
xx,
Michelle, Harrington and Hannah
ps..If you are wondering, Harrington and Hannah have a Southern, North Carolina accent. ;)

Oh, You were in bun heaven I am sure - how cool is that!!
Ahhh Shell you are so funny. Sure gave me a big smile & a laugh. Thanks for showing us the photo's. Hugs,xx.
Heehee! That is beyond awesome--I would have been such a bad girl, I would have been wanting to feed them Mick's hay cookies and see if they'd let me pet them. :)
P.S. For the record, Mick's accent tends to fluctuate a bit (much like his mum's) with occasional forays into Southern, English and Irish accents depending on how much TV he is watching.
Great post Shell. Sounds like Captain's retirement ceremony was very special. Have a great weekend. xx
What a bunny fest! I love it...you take great pictures :o)
oh how wonderful to see all those rabbits together and what a nice gift from Captain that trip was!
OK.....OK....here I am. Michelle, your heart must have jumped out of your chest as fast as a JACK RABBIT! YOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
I can't believe this! It is as if the heavens knew you were going to be there, and then sprinkled the landscape with BUNNIES! OK, let me tell you my story.
When we lived in Massachusetts, we rarely saw bunnies, and we lived in a wooded area. When we relocated to Minneapolis, we were just looking for a home that could be our little dream home. When we found it, we settled in. To my great surprise our first week, I look out the window and see at least four gorgeous wild bunnies in our yard. It has been 16 wonderful years of having our own resident rabbits come and live on our property. For some funny reason, though these bunnies are EVERY WHERE in our city, WE are the house that has THE MOST bunnies living in the yard. GOD KNOWS WE LOVE RABBITS! teehee....we have had the best time watching them, NAMING THEM (like you) and making little scenarios.
Well, I love that these rabbits speak Spanish! Conejos they are called in Spanish, LAPIN, en français!
Oh, this is such a delight. I have to show Ruben when he wakes up!
Thank you so much for coming to visit me! Anita
ah, so THAT's what a jack rabbit is - we call them hares over here and I've never known what a jack rabbit is!
Wow Shell, that is amazing , jack rabbits sure are big ! Enjoy !!
You were almost in my neck of the woods! I'm wintering in New Braunfels. I'm not visiting Corpus this year because I'm heading to FL in a few weeks to meet up with an elderly quilty friend so I can drive her back to New England. Figure I'll get my southern shore experience there! Love those bunnies!! Glad you had a good time!
As soon as I saw those rabbits it reminded me of where we lived in England and all those rabbits! It was insane and I'd thought I'd never see so many together on one turf again and then this today! Certainly a bunny gal's heaven on earth to see so many. You just cracked me up today...thanks for the chuckle to get the day going. Your not a dork....your normal in my book!
congratulations to your Captain! I hope she has a great civvie life now :)
When I was serving the base I was stationed on (in Australia) had masses of hares - just like your pics above.
That was simply amazing whild hares(Jack rabbits) not afraid of anything normally they are quite timid,xx Speedy and rachel
Congratulation to the Caption on her Retirement. Loved the photos of Campground Rabbits. WOW I have never seen so very many.. Neat. Thanks for sharing. Hugs Judy
that is amazing! what long legs they have too. I guess the dog knows he is out numbered so he doesn't chase them. :)
Lovely commentary and amazing photos..
Mama Bear
Congratulations to your Captain friend..give her a big thanks for her service for me :) I loved reading this post...had me lol! Wonder what makes the rabbits gather there though? I must say your bunnies are so much cuter than those Jack Rabbits :) Blessings
Feliz fin de semana a todos los conejos frambuesa, donde quiera que estés! (Betcha didn't know I was fluent in Google Translate Spanish :)) Fab photos and I'm so glad you've had such a brilliant time!
Shelly --- just talked to you!!!!
Great post.... lots of smiles...

Hi Shell, This is great, what a super treat. I never knew what a Jack Rabbit looked like. Very cool, thanks for the introduction.
O.M.G. Too Funny. Love Renaldo.
Awesome!
OMGosh - you are toooo funny! Truth be told, I have the very same pictures, also taken on my first visit to the same campground on the base by the sea! I, too, was simply amazed at how many there were and how big they were! And let me just say, I've been told my sweet southern VA/NC accent is now becoming more and more Hispanic than southern, due to our constant ummm...exposure. :)
Those Jack Rabbits are so awesome. You managed to get some great pictures. I never realized how big they are and I love those gigantic ears. You are so funny and I get a good laugh from many of your blog posts. As soon as I read they had a Spanish accent I started reading/hearing the words in my head with that accent. Your imagination helps the rest of us to use ours.
Oh my gosh! How awesome. I can't believe they are all over the campground where there are dogs and people wandering around like that. How cool. Great pictures.
Oh! Aren't they gorgeous? They look half deer and half rabbit! And you are too funny, girl. I was so reading it in a Spanish accent and just about snorting coffee out my nose. Thanks for the laugh :)))))
Oh, you have me ReAlLy LOL! What a bonus for you on the trip, Shell, that Captain is a thoughtful friend. I would love to hear Harrington and Hannah's accent ~
:-}pokey
What a wonderful place! We've just been camping for a few days but no rabbits came to see us.... Hugs xx
Hi Shell,
You are so cute and loved reading your post and seeing all the Jack Rabbits and I bet you couldn't believe your eyes. They look so big and so many of them. Looks like a fun trip.
On our Island often if you are driving especially at night you often see bunny rabbits running across the road.
Happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
if you would like, there are many jack rabbits on the campus of Texas Tech University, (Lubbock) and they have the most amazing drawl...a bit scholar and a lot y'all!
Very fun post and thank you for the smiles. Your sense of humor is very welcome in this busy life we live. Hop on bunny dears...
Look at all those big ol' bunnies! It's great! Reminds me of the time I was at Jekyll Island to drop off my daughter and saw zillions of bunnies grazing and browsing along the road as I was leaving in the late afternoon. Been trying to get back there ever since.
When I was stationed at ft. Bliss in el paso Texas in 95 I swore I saw a jack rabbit that looked the size of a small kangeroo:-) they are quite large especially when the sit up straight.
Also you would love to know my grandparents last names were Hare.:-) they had a sign at their mailbox on the lake in Michigan that said welcome to the Hare's Hutch:-)
Love it. I love jack rabbits! The whole body shape. Ive never seem one though. Must be a southern thing!
