Today we are so very sad. The local forestry service started a "controlled" burn of the forest on Friday. Why they chose a day full of high and wicked wind is beyond me. Common sense must have been on vacation. Yes, as you can imagine the "controlled" burn became uncontrolled. As of this post, over 22,000 acres have burned.
Our hearts are so sad for all the critters of the wood that are homeless, scared or dead. Our home is surrounded by thick smoke and ash. It's a dreadful kind of death feeling.
Our good friend, RG, of House Full of Rabbits told us that it takes 270 trees per human to erase the carbon footprint we leave behind. Yes, 270 trees per person. Now 22,000 acres of those beautiful trees are gone....gone.....
Today we shall plant a tree in the yard in memory of all the critters of the wood and say a prayer that they forgive the ignorant and stupid humans for yet again destroying so much that is gifted to us. We will water the tree with hugs and kisses and we will watch love grow. We will believe that kindness and doing good things will still win in the end...
Sending light and love...
xx, Michelle, Harrington and Hannah

How horrible, I hope you are safe.
That is so sad! I watch people make huge plant debris piles in their yard and when they get BIG, they burn them...It breaks my heart "BECAUSE" I know animals "ALWAYS" move into those habits.
So happy for your "Critter Tree"!
Big Squishy Hugs to you,
Donna
poor little things... out of control fires can do such damage..... what a lovely idea to plant a tree...
Hugz
Yes we humans never learn or get it right with the environment and critters
Sometimes what we humans do just doesn't make sense. I heard about the fire on the news. It's very sad. Thinking of you and all the innocent critters and trees!
some people just dont have brains, how dreadful.xx
I agree with you so very much on these "controlled" burns - doesn't anyone check the weather conditions before lighting them???! It is just heartbreaking to think of all the animals that are caught up in this....there truly are no words....
That has happened here in Australia too! Control burns on hot, high windy days that become out of control! I hope you are safe Shell.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it? And how many times have we heard this story?
Be safe.
Oh, dear. Those poor woodland critters.
Humans trying to control Nature...
Thank you for planting a tree
Terrible. So sorry for all the little creatures.
Your tree will be strong and beautiful.
Such a sad situation...and one that could have been avoided...sometimes you just have to shake your head...
Oh no....you know, it hurts my heart to see our innocent friends suffer so...the other day, I saw a bunny get hit by a car. I saw a SPARROW not be able to fly off fast enough and was destroyed by a car.....Ruben and I try to provide a little haven here for the bunnies and birds that come to seek shelter here. And they do. Last night, a little bunny came to lay down on our kitchen porch, smelling my onions sauteeing in olive oil!!! She looked happy.
Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear of this....think of us as you plant your tree. Love, Anita
How very sad, I hope you are safe, and the animals have moved to a good place. Planting the tree is very nice.
How very sad! When will we learn to take care of all that we've been blessed with?!!!
My heart breaks with yours. It's hard to make sense of things sometimes when they happen, but by focusing on our own positive actions we can find some peace. It's not the right time of year for me to also plant a tree, but I will say a few words around the tiny apple tree I'm nuturing.
I'm sorry for the loss, which could have been avoided! You have a good heart, I hope your tree grows strong and grand ~
:-}pokey
Bureaucracy once again rules over common sense and common good. Planting a tree is a way of bring good to a sad situation.
Deb
Shell this is so very disturbing. I hope at least that you and yours are safe. Why do they never do controlled burns on calm days in winter? It always seems like they do controlled burns in the summer and it seems that's very often how wildfires start. I hope your area can replace some of the lost trees each year.
Being English I am going to be true to my self and be very blunt!the term to use is IDIOT JEDS!can't say more as it would be impolite on this blog.we send you good thoughts for you new tree
Be safe bunnies and Shell!! That is awful that this has happened! Poor creatures and trees!
I'm so sorry....to see such tragedy up close lingers on in our memories forever. blessings, marlene
Common sense? That's just useless baggage. Let's leave it at home today.
Amazing. Sometimes you just gotta wonder...
Controlled burns so easily get out of control. I am just like you, it hurts my heart to think of all the little creatures that perish.
Oh, that is horrible. What were they thinking. Stay safe.
That is so sad and so senseless.
Debbie
eep, that is so not good! I hope there's some plans being made to replace the trees lost in this so-called "controlled" burn, and I hope that you and the bunnehs are safe and not suffering from smoke inhalation. Hugs and much love from me and Mr. Mick!
Oh, Shell - I am so sad!!! I always thought we, as humans, were supposed to be the protectors of the earth, not the destroyers!!! I will plant something in memory of the little critters when I move to Idaho next week!! xoxoxo
I'm so sad to read about the loss of all the trees, wildlife and nature. I do hope you and yours are safe. Planting the tree is a lovely way to mark such sadness, hopefully soon it will have many friends that grow around it.
Heart breaking post and I love that you are going to plant a tree in memory of the trees and woodland animals ...
Such a tragedy...why can't we trust God to know what's best for His critters? Why must man interfere???? Especially *on purpose!**
Y'all are so special to plant a tree to try to compensate for others' stupidity.
You did the right thing with a tree. We bought a Kousa Dogwood and can't wait to plant it in a new yard. Totally agree about the stupidity of others. Short comments and wanted say hi. Judy C
How awful. So sad for the critters. Such stupidity is beyond me. Glad you have planted a tree for them. Hugs,
I know that those burns are necessary, but to start a fire on a windy day has got to be the height of irresponsibility. I'm sorry for the loss of that wild area and all that goes with it, Shell.
What a wonderful and loving tribute to plant a tree in your yard. Mother Nature is lucky to have you on her side, my friend.
xoxo

Yerks --- I totally Disapprove.
(As some say, Mother Nature bats last!)
But why? Why would they want to burn down the forest? That's bloody ridiculous. If they must get rid of it (and I can't imagine why), why not cut down the trees so the wood can be used?!?
