Plan B and QuiltCon

Well, plan B it is. We had snow, ice, more snow, more ice and now...yes, out my window I hear it sleeting again. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! I hate winter! There is suppose to be 6-9 inches of snow along my route to the Quilt Festival, which is a four hour drive. Needless to say, this little bunny is staying home. I just don't know how to drive in snow and I don't want to hurt myself, somebunny else or my bunny mobile for that matter. If I lived somewhere that there was snow all the time, of course I would learn. But I don't and this isn't the time to try and figure it out. So home it is. Waaaaaaaaaa! Oh well, I will get a lot of work done that needs to be done.

So, since I can't share photos of the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival with you, I will share this cool article on QuiltCon. Have you heard of QuiltCon? It's all about modern quilting and modern quilters. This article came from Houzz (with permission to embed).

So what do you think of modern quilts? Have you made any?

Keep warm, do something creative and have a fun weekend.

xx,
Michelle and the fuzzy crew

Aw sorry Shell - that's too bad. I do like modern quilts, but really haven't made many - at least not from patterns, lol!

I am almost always disappointed in the "modern style quilt. I wa raised in a where we were kept warm ion blustery night by Gramma quilts.....we carted them to highschool football games for staying cozy....every new baby in the family received one. The one thing all these quilts has in common was that the were made from ver traditional fabrics... Fashioned into traditional time worn pattern...always cotton batting which gave the their special crinkly yet softer drape w the first washing. There was just a certain warmth and love in those quilts I just don't get in the ultramodern quilts that r so popular right

I get lost in the term 'modern' and you can get a different response for each person you ask. I don't like the over quilting whether modern or traditional - it makes them more an art quilt than a useable quilt. I think you are wise to stay home - the weather is not being nice and it makes for unsafe travels.

I agree with the above comment. Modern or traditional, if the quilt is heavily quilted I lose the pattern and only see the quilting. When I look at a quilt I like to imagine how it would fee to be wrapped in it. I've white gloved where I was able to "touch" the quilts of a very famous awarding winning quilter. I think the quilt just might have been able to stand on its own it was so heavily quilted. Those are art pieces and meant to be hung and not used. I wasn't born with the "art gene" so the "modern quilt movement" will probably leave me behind.

Not fond of modern. Seems cold to me. Nothing like snuggling up in a warm, traditional, perhaps flannel, quilt by a roaring fire. In Utah I can't do that right now because we are nearing the high 50s with plenty of sunshine. I'll trade your snow for our sun! lol We need the water for the summer!

YOU are wise to stay home, Shell.....driving in the snow with no experience (or even with experience for that matter) is not a good idea if you don't have to be out. Oh how this winter has sucked the life out of things! BE SAFE! And we shall get out of this freeze soon...I HOPE! We are hoping over to the HOPPY HOUR this weekend because we have a hankering to see some bunnies. Our wild rabbits in the garden will NOT show their faces or butts because it's just too cold. We do see their tracks in the snow, however!

Be well, stay safe sweet friend. Anita

Excellent decision to stay home...always better to be safe than sorry. More reason to stay inside and play with your felt!

My goodness you are having a time of it. We have only had a smattering this winter here in the Licolnshire wolds. The temperatures have even started rising now with a promise of Spring just around the corner. I hope you are soon able to venture out again and sorry you had to miss your show.

I live in Michigan where we're used to driving in snow and ice, and I wouldn't go out in that mess! Stay safe :)

Hi Shell, smart decision staying home:) I have not made any modern quilts, prefer the more traditional ones, designed by quilters in the 90's

I'm so glad that I didn't plan on Mid-Atlantic now that this storm hit. I'd have been so disappointed. I watched Instagramers post from QuiltCon and there were some really cool looking quilts to be seen. I don't decorate with them but sure can appreciate the fun style of them. In fact, I'm going to be participating in a blog hop book review in March of a new book from Jo's Country Junction. I'm waiting for my copy now...should be fun!
Keep toasty!

It's been nasty here too Shell - freezing rain, sleet, snow, rain.....all of it led to MUD and it wasn't even pretty for longer than a couple of hours at a time. :( blessings, marlene

Did I mention mowing the lawn, daffodils all blooming and forsythia too? Blue sky and 55 degrees. (Sorry.)

I think people who make quilts are amazing - modern or not. They all come out looking so good and like a lot of thought and work!

I'm sure that you're disappointed, Shelby, but better safe than sorry. We don't want anything to happen to you (or the Bunnymobile)!

Stay warm. You'll be in my thoughts.

Aw, I know you're disappointed. Darn it! Just make yourself a cuppa tea, turn on the fireplace, and watch a good old movie. That's my recipe for overcoming disappointment :))))

Smart girl avoiding traveling in the snow and ice!
For some reason, Blogger keeps dropping you from my Blog reading list. So I signed up for email sends of your posts. Don't want to miss any Sabrina or Bunny pics!

If you look back to the 70's or early 80's, so much that is modern is really just coming around again. Partly cause in the 70's there wasn't much how-to info out there, and it was hippy time, afterall. And if you didn't want little flowered calicos, solids were your only fabric choice. Unless you used polyester double knits, and there are more than a few of those quilts out there! The great thing about quilting is that it is constantly renewing itself, with each generation taking something old, and making it suit them now. And yes, Virginia was very snowy. Thought about you as I drove through.
