Once in a rabbit moon...
Sometimes I truly get goose bumps thinking about how certain people will show up in my life. How those people magically appear and how I instantly feel like I have known them my whole life and we are the best of friends. How for some reason, we are brought together at a certain time and a certain place for a certain reason. This is the story...
In 2011, while attending the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival, I stumbled upon this quilt. You know I fell in love with it at first sight. I even blogged about it back then.
Little did I know, that two years later, I would be having a Play Date and Chat with the Cabin Branch Quilter's Guild in Virginia. Little did I know that I would be invited to stay at the home of the guild's Vice President. Little did I know that the VP was the creator of that wonderful rabbit quilt I fell in love with.
Please meet, my new and dear friend, Shannon Shirley of Once in a Rabbit Moon. Shannon is a designer, author, quilt maker, speaker, instructor and...bunny lover!!!!
This is the room I was invited to stay in.
Vintage and new quilts everywhere!
Charming vignettes in every corner.
When I woke in the morning, this is the first thing I saw. Bunnies!!! I smiled and thought to myself...this is the BEST guest room EVER!!!!
There is so much warmth and love throughout Shannon's home that she shares with her delightful mom.
The back porch filled with bunnies of course!
Her quilts hanging on a ladder.
Vintage pieces mixed with new.
Collaborative quilts she has made with friends from a photo she took,
and then I saw her...Dottie the pig. Again, while visiting the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival in 2012, I fell in love with this pig. Dottie the pig. Shannon, yes Shannon, was the creator of this quilt I adored at that show. How cool is that!
This is Shannon's studio. Her father, who has since passed away, helped her build it. It's on the third floor of her home, nestled high in the trees. Light, love and creativity fill this space.
Shannon has won many ribbons and awards for her work. She is truly a remarkable lady and well deserving of each award.
This is the classroom in her home. Yes, she even has a classroom to share the art of quilting.
This sign hangs on the door to her classroom. The rabbits are actually a vintage bookmark. Awesome!
So I really don't know how it happens or even why it does, but all I know
is that once in a rabbit moon, a new friend is brought into my life, and that new friend, will be my friend, for my entire life.
Light, love and hugs to you Shannon.
xx,
Michelle and the Bunnies

Good morning dear and beautiful friend,
I am having goosebumps just listening to your enthusiasm here; it is magic, that's pure and simple....it is MAGIC when we connect with people who have the same vision and passion for something that brings joy and light. What a gorgeous bedroom, patio and studio and filled with BUNNIE? PERFECT. Just perfect.

Friendships just happen. You where in your element and your room was fabulous. I just love her decor, what a joy and thank you for sharing.
What a kindred spirit you met....truly a soul mate! I loved her "Dottie The Pig" and what a great workspace, nice her dad had helped her build it.

It's wonderful to meet kindred spirits along the journey,You are one lucky lady to meet wonderful people like you do,xx Rachel
Wow Wow Wow, what a beautiful place this lady has, you were so so lucky to stay in that beautiful room with the Lemon quilt, gorgeous!
What wonderful paths brought you together! I had a similar experience with quilts made by my now friend, Nancy Brown. First saw a quilt by her called Lions, Tigers, and Bears at PQIF in CA in about 2004(?) I was totally mesmerized by it. Kept it in my heart and was thrilled when years later I was able to take a class with Nancy and see the quilt again. More correspondence and meetings has blessed me with knowing such a kind and creative friend. She loves animals too. It is thrilling to come closer to art and people that have touched us.
What a lovely story with a perfect ending- a new friend!
She really is amazing...those little bunnies are heavenly...so glad you have a new bunny friend...

Hi Michelle, Oh I have goosie bumps also. Lovely story and lovely gal, that shannon. Feel like I know her now too.
I was just talking about the same thing happening to me recently. Is it angels above, or just happenstance or what is it. However, let's not try to figure it out, just love it when it happens, it has, it will again!! Love you and your whimsicalness. You make me feel like a little girl again, all wrapped up in "never never land."
Oh! my "Fusions" arrived today, thanks to you for sure.
