Well this is what I was stitching! This is another Folk-Art Fusion piece I have just finished!
Folk-Art Fusion is a combination of hand stitching, machine quilting and wool applique.
Here's a close up of the primitive stitched border. I use my Valdani 3 strand floss for this and the wool applique stitching.
Several of you have asked about a release date for my book, Briarside Lane. (I couldn't reply to you as you are "no-reply comment bloggers and have no email address) As of today, it looks like it will be ready by the end of May. There will be 15 patterns in the book. I'm so excited!!
I'm still toying with the idea of making it an e-book as well as a printed book. I know that so many people have Kindle's and ipads now. I have to admit that I'm still kinda old school and I really love the feel of real book in my hand.
What are your thoughts on e-patterns and books? Which do you prefer?

OK, before anyone says anything, Yes, I was THAT kid...It all depends :-) For patterns I don't care. Mostly. A deciding factor for me, if the book is solid bound and I have an "e" option I will take the "e"...if the book is spiral bound and I have an option, well, then I will take the book. LOL. I like it to lay flat.I know I am odd. LOL. I can't wait to see the book (no matter the binding...LOL) I am certain it will be amazing!
Gorgeous Folk Art Fusion project as always. Although I own an e-Reader I prefer my patchwork/craft books to be proper books.
I have a Kindle & I love it. That being said, there are still books that I will buy in hardback or even paperback. I live where wi-fi isn't available,so I download to my Kindle via my laptop-at home. One off patterns are fine in e-format, but for a whole book of patterns & projects, I would take a real book anytime. The cost of ink to print a whole book with pictures makes my mind boggle!

I have a Nook tablet and I have Kindle on my computer and phone, so I've got it all covered. My house is small, and I am a there-but-the-grace-of-gawd away from being showcased on "Hoarders", so I made a vow not to buy any more physical books because I just have no place to put them. If I can get a pattern electronically, I'm there.
I don't own an e-reader so it's old fashioned for me every time. Though I do like to download PDF patterns. x

I own a NOOK and love it for reading however for quilting and projects I am going old school. Your projects are so nice!
I love your block! I would love the option of paper book and ebook for my iPad.
I'm old school, I go with the book. Unless I'm walking, then its audio books. But I guess quilting while walking is probably a bad idea anyway!
Another beautiful piece Shell..... I like books to browse through and lay around looking homely - and especially if they have patterns in I would need to print them off anyway...

Oh my oh my - so gorgeous!!! I don't have a kindle or ipad so I prefer real books, but you could go both ways! This is really spectacular, Shell, I love all the hand stitching on it!
Lovely! I would go for both and cover your bases. I normally do everthing digitally - but for detailed reference you can't beat a proper book.
I can definitely understand the attraction to ebooks but I still love having a 'real' book or magazine in my hands. And I love to keep a stack of them in my craft room and living room.
I love this, the look of the quilting and the applique has so much dimension.

I love your new piece - just stunning. On the matter of books or ebooks it depends - I love 'real' books but if a book is not easy to get hold of in the UK then an ebook is great.

I love your little quilt Shell. I prefer to look through books. I enjoy looking through my pattern books when having a cuppa (that's if I'm not browsing through blogs!).
This is so beautiful and what a great combination! I still prefer a hand held book, I'm old school too!
I have a Kindle Fire and I love it, but you cannot print patterns from it. So...I'd have to stick with either a proper book or a downloadable pdf file.
I gotta have the book in my hands--
to read and reread and then decide and then go do, and and--yep--need one in my hands!!!!

Ooooh, love that design - what patience you have to do all that hand stitching and keep it all so even!!
ebook vs hardcopy? BOTH! I love the instant download, and I love that I don't have a bunch of paper and stuff laying around, but on the other hand, when I'm actually doing the project, I like to have the paper I can keep referring back to (and make notes, if I need to). And there's nuthin' as much fun as leafing thru a new book & picking out your next project during commercials!

Shell this is a beautiful piece - I love the way your running stitch looks on it. I'm going to try that on the next thing I do. My preference is for real hold-in-my-hand books when it comes to pattern but because of cost I would certainly buy an e-pattern, especially if I thought I would only use it once. My bookshelf runneth over but when I get home I'm going on a cleaning rampage and I'll pass some of those on to others who might enjoy them for a while. Old fashioned - No - By choice I do not own the new gadgets as I do not want the complication of yet more information-seeking gadgets. I love being able to download PDF patterns to my computer for embroidery. Nothing can compare to the tangible feel of a book. Prefer they lay flat, especially when there are a lot of patterns as I like to compare the patterns. I have been known to have the spine removed and made into a spiral. Way to go Shell, just so happy for you. Judy C

So I'm not sewing but I will weigh in. I have a kindle but hardly use it anymore. I find that kindle isn't the best for any kind of reference book that you need to flip back and forth or find a certain page. I think other tablets might e better. that said, if you could directly print from the e-book, it might be easier if you're going to have patterns in there? Idk.

I love a real book if I can get it in the UK. However, I also like e-books as it makes printing out patterns so much easier. And it's quicker to get here and there's no postage :-) bunnyhugs Ellyxx
Hi there, love this new piece. I love my books nothing beats turning those pages back and forth. I have a kindle I only read novels on it and still buy the proper book if I love it. Books rival quilts around here for space!! Hugs Chris xx

I love e-books for novels but for a book like yours I want to hold it in my hand. I'm hoping you will sell autographed copies.
Boy am I behind!!! A book! That's awesome :) I'm so excited for you!!!First of all, I have to confess that I never thought I would be a Kindle girl. Turns out I am. I love carrying a bunch of books around with me in one little tablet, and choosing what I want to read, rather than being stuck with only the book I brought with me. This is not to say my love affair with books is over, oh no! I will continue to add to my library whenever possible. (before books become antiques you only find in thrift stores!) But to answer your question, if there are patterns to be printed out, stay with an eBook (pdf) or Printed. As far as I know, I can't print off my Kindle :)

Hi Michelle: I'm definitely old school and love the feel of a "real" book. I'm the same way with patterns, I most often pass on patterns that are only offered as pdf's.
