Before's and After - The Dining Room

Ok everybun, this week we are on to the Dining Room. I'm waiting on a handmade quilt/plate rack for the big wall, but I figured I'd show you this room anyway and I'll catch that up down the road. Besides, I don't have the quilt made yet. Are you ready?  Let's get this tour started.

First up we have the "Victorian" phase with stained glass chandelier, yellow walls and frou frou dining room set.

Next we have the "Shabby Chic" with the handpainted mural on the ceiling and crystal chandelier phase. I even put crystal trim on the shades. Have I mentioned I will never have a crystal chandelier again? I'm too much of a clean freak and when those crystals get dirty, they are a booger to clean. It takes forever!

Then we moved on to the "see ya later ceiling mural, yellow walls, crystal chandelier and frou frou dining set and hello French" phase.

And then we removed the blue accents (that David didn't like) and went to the "shades of white" phase.

And finally here we are today with our "Country Cottage" phase with a simple brushed nickel chandelier. Doesn't Natascha's fruit swag (see post below) look perfect above the window? I love it! I'm in the process of designing a table runner (yes, it will be a pattern so you can make one too) and the neighbor down the road is making me a beautiful wooden bowl.

This is a close up of the curtain fabric. I love the folky flowers and the olive green against the black. It's actually an indoor/outdoor fabric from Waverly. I thought it would be perfect because it won't fade. Plus, it was a breeze to sew!

Well there ya have it. The new Country Cottage dining room and all the other phases. I am truly enjoying reading all your comments as to which one is your favorite. So far the new style is still winning! :)

Beautiful transformations of the room. All are lovely, but I like the Country Cottage phase. I'm not big on the chair covers unless the kids are coming, though. ;) Perhaps you need them to keep the colors the way you want them.

Lovely series to be able to see the changes that can make such a big impact on the look of the area.

Dear Sugie,

Does your mommy spend as much time dressing up your living space as she does hers? Does she let you decorate as you would like? Do you and that handsome man of yours ever get candlelit dinners?
Mommy's house is very pretty.

I do prefer the "Country Cottage" phase, although I am enamored of the stained glass chandelier from the "Victorian" phase. Those chair seats look like rabbit fodder when they are uncovered: has Harrington ever sampled them?

I'm with Fab Furs--LOVE the "Country Cottage" look (and the fruit swag is perfect), but I also love the stained glass chandelier. Hubby and I share a passion for glass and stained glass; we love to see the amazing colors when the sun comes through them.

(I'm with you on crystal chandeliers, though--too much work to keep them pretty.)

The country look has a lot of warmth to it - very approachable yet still elegant-ish. I also like the white phase, but the last is the best. The wooden bowl will be the perfect thing!

You are the decorating queen. That ceiling mural was so pretty. Did you paint it? My style is different than yours but I do enjoy seeing what you do.

It is so fun to see the room changing through the years. My tastes have change quite a bit over the years. I am just now redoing my bedroom and hope to move on the dining room next. I hope you and your family are all doing well.

Way to go Shell - love that cottage look. Did you leave the white iron on the wall when you did the last makeover? It wasn't in the pictures so thought I would ask. Judy C

I like the new country cottage theme, and it goes well with your entry. :o) But I also liked the Victorian theme; it was homey somehow, too. Such fun! When are you coming to do my house? ;o)

It's got to make you happy... but for me I'm liking the last one... the Country Cottage. I think I'm drawn to it because of the contrast and the draperies are delicious! What a tough choice someone is going to have to make.

I too love all the looks really--but I do think this last make over is the best one--except--would you believe that all the country decorating magazines now have the shinny glass hanging lamps with the crystals on them in every look--even the good ole country look and they have them in every room!!!!!!
Hugs, Di and that miss gracie says Hi to Sugie and Harrington!!!

I'm wondering how often you change it...I like the last one but the first one was nice too.

I like the Shades of white phase but the Country cottage feels warmer. It is difficult to choose.

Thanks to share this with us.

Looking very chic yet still very cozy.

Are Sugie and Harrington allowed in this part of your home Shell or do they remain in the studio mostly?

Are you going to give us a tour of your studio??? I'd LOVE to see that.

Hope your having a wonderful day dear friend. That little itty bitty treat is coming in the mail soon.

p.s. Ella Luna goes in for surgury on Monday to remove her abscess....do send some extra good energy our way that day pretty please. XXOO.

Shell, I was thinking the same thing as TFF and Jade! I love the stained glass, also love the new curtains. It's cute how the chairs look like they're wearing little sundresses, but maybe because of the presentation of each style in succession, it looks like a remnant of the last phase a bit out of place with the new style...

How does David feel about these sudden drastic changes in the decor of the entire house?!

Beautiful, beautiful, thats all I can say. You outdone yourself with the country cottage style. I can see how you move from the all whites also in your new designs as in the 12 of Heart Floss Kits. Thanks for sharing the photos with us.
