Rescuing Handmade

Isn't it funny how some things will find their way to you? Last week I received a package in the mail. It was from my fun friend, Sharon of Corgis in My Garden. Sharon goes to lots and lots of estate sales in search of treasures. She then stocks her booth at Through The Garden Gate Antiques in Virginia. It's a wonderful place to shop!

While attending a recent estate sale, Sharon stumbled across a handmade rabbit. Of course like most of my friends, Sharon immediately thought of me. Her note in the box read "I know you have a house full of bunnies and friends are always sending them but...I was at an estate sale this past weekend and spotted this cutie on a table full of dishes. He needed to be rescued and I knew just the person to do it. (I did try to resist and walked away but it didn't work). So, I'm sending him to Bunnyville in hopes that you'll have a place for him."

Sharon later told me that it looked as if someone was walking around with him and then changed their mind and threw him on the table full of dishes. She said it was as if a little voice was saying, "Please save me."

I must admit that I started crying when I read her note and thought about this bunny. I started crying not just because my hormones have been having a party lately, but because I imagined the woman who made this rabbit.

She took great care in her stitching and was so proud of him that she even signed her name and placed the date on his foot. It was obvious that this little fella was well loved and cared for as he was clean and didn't have the "old" odor that textile things can get.

What made me cry was thinking of myself later in life. The time when all the things created with my own hands and the treasures I have, which were handmade by my friends, will end up in an estate sale.

I can only hope that someone will come along to rescue them and treasure them once again, just like this little fella. I do believe he will be quite happy here in Bunnyville. Don't you?

Thank you Sharon. :)

xx,
Michelle and the Bunnies

Wonderful Bunny to add to your family...I to wonder what will happen to all the things I've made...especially the ones I keep for myself...no children to hand them done to...I hope someone will cherish them as much a i do. hey...my hormones are doing the funky dance to...I learned recently that fish oil at least 4 cap a day keeps the hot flashed away...LOL! It works! hugs Susan

You are not the only one who worries today about what will happen to their treasures when they leave this earth--and I even have two children--who would not want them--my things and quilts are too old fashioned for them!!!!!

Awwww..... I think of my quilts and my scrapbooks. Nobody will want them, so a dumpster will be filled with unwanted memories some day. Glad you were able to resuce one handsome bunny!

I would have cried too, my dear. I so understand where you're coming from....hand made, a bunny, someone made this, and to think of it being thrown around is like throwing someone's heart around....so sweet. Anita

The rabbit is gorgeous! Your words resonated with me...especially regarding our crafty items. I too made bunnies over the years to decorate my livingroom, but over time they have disappeared to yard sales, etc...wonder if they were saved? Glad Mr. Rabbit found a new home!

This is such a sweet handmade bunny and how nice that Sharon rescued him for your Bunnyville home. I can't even bear to think of my treasures at my Estate Sale...or worse yet being put in a dumpster with no regard what-so-ever. Bunny Blessings Dear...

Such a lovely gift. I wonder this too, hope some-one will want my things when I'm gone but I can't imagine it will be either of my boys.

What a cute bunny. I often think too about my treasures some day ending up in the garbage. It saddens me. I do have kids that will treasure my special things though.

Bunny is just so darn cute sitting in that light and love and looking so happy living with you in Bunnyville. I share your concerns and thoughts - and can only hope my treasures will be as loved later. I have been giving mine away to those who show an interest in loving and admiring them now. Such a wonderful feeling to give a gift of love - my daughter already has a lot of that love. Judy C in NC

Blimey sweets, there will be hordes of folk queuing for a tiny piece of the famous Shell of 'The Raspberry Rabbit's estate!' :)

Loving the bunny - he has true character! Sharon is a star; and you can never have too many rabbits, now can you?! xxx
