One Peep, Two Peep, Three Peep

Hoppy Friday! Harrington and Hannah decided to take a vacation day, so I thought I would show you some photos of my peeps.

*Please note: I know many of you are saying, "That can't be Shell. That girl is wearing a skirt." Well, it is me and it's not a skirt. It's a cheater. It's a skort! Ha! :) :) :)

So late in the evening, I head out the back door and yell "Come on peeps! It's time for dinner!" If they are across the pond, they will fly to me. It's magnificent to see.

Then they all come a run'in  up the yard for dinner.

The peeps love their scratch grains. I purchase it in a 25lb. bag from the local farm and garden center for $17.00. My friend Lorna, told me it's really bad to feed peeps bread. I know most of us grew up feeding peeps bread, but it's like feeding them naughty fast food. Scratch grain is the proper peep food. Plus little birdies and wild bunnies like to eat it too.  :)

This little one always comes right up to my feet. We have a delightful conversation about the his/her day.

Most of the time our conversation is about how fast the time is going and how I know they will be leaving soon to make their winter journey.

They do poo poo all over they place, but David just mows over it. Free fertilizer I say! Hee,hee, hee. Honestly though, I simply find them so beautiful. I love the sound of their wings when they fly. I love how they honk and the little noises they make when I feed them. But, the best thing of all is how they come back every single year to visit me. Such wonderful friends they are. They always make me smile.

Hoppy Friday.
xx,
Michelle

Beautiful friends! We have geese trekking over where we live and I love watching their marvellous formations. Very noisy, too :-) They will soon be passing over , a sure sign summer is over.

I would love your peeps in my garden! We call them Canada Geese here. Mind you, our small garden bird visitors probably eat as much, they're like winged piranhas, but we have had several broods safely fledged this year - so it's all worth it:)!

My first thought was, you actually encourage goose poo? But if you're okay with that . . . Baby geese are adorable, and I love seeing how well the adults watch over them.

Darling friend,

First of all, you remind me of my cousin Michelle, who we also call SHELL. You look like her, I am assuming that like her, you don't enjoy dresses or skirts, but you both look fabulous in skorts, jeans, shorts.

These honkers are a hoot to have around. We see them all the time near the lakes, and to see the goslings is a joy. I have many a story about these stately creatures, and like you, I enjoy talking to them, to ANY creature who hangs around long enough near me to listen.

What a gorgeous area you live in my friend. School starts for me next week, and I am going to try to keep my head above the new water that will soon rise. But one thing I do know is that I will always enjoy my visits here to see you.

HUGS TO ALL! Anita

Looks like you got a cute haircut! I like! Funny story about geese in our yard in SD many years ago...they would cover the ground at times. Our first year there I loved watching them...until I discovered they left their marks EVERYWHERE!!! We had too much fertilizer I might say! We learned a small group was ok...aa large mass? NOT OK! LOL

Lovely photos. There are several feral Canada geese at Musselburgh, where I was today. They flew over the trees and landed with a big splash in the boating pond!

You are lucky that they don't attack you. I have been chased by a goose. LOL Like you say, they leave a mess and can't walk barefoot out there. Enjoy your weekend.

Such marvelous creatures! Absolutely beautiful! I would buy them the good stuff too :-)

I have been known to honk with geese. They look at me like my accent is way off (or I'm saying something rather rude) but they'll honk back with a little encouragement. :)

Here in Chilliwack, we have a few "foul crossing" or "Watch for birds crossing!" signs because of the Canadian Geese hang outs. :D

The little goslings are such little cute balls of fluff in the spring!

Lovely to see them year after year, wonder what H & H would think of them!

Tina said...

I love Canadian geese too - they are one the most magnificent, beautiful birds ever! I also think it's great that you are feeding them which will help when they fly south :)

P.S. Love your new haircut!! So cute!

And you, my dear Shell, are a wonderful friend to your peeps!! Thanks for sharing this delightful post and a big hug to the bun kids!! :-))

Thanks for sharing what to feed the peeps!! :)

I thought of you last week as I was driving home from vacation (in Indianapolis, back to Baltimore) - I saw a house with a rabbit mailbox! The box was very pretty, a painted white rabbit in wood. Made me think instantly of you and how you really need one like that. :)

Sorry, though - no photo (I was driving and could not stop due to traffic)

:) Linda

Oh it's so nice to see you feeding our Canadian Geese! They are lovely birds are'nt they?! I love seeing them with your young ones...they are all over our neighborhood as I live on a morrain so lots of water holes for them. I'm so thankful you are feeding our friends, in turn I am feeding H & H's cousins. We are moving at the end of the month and I am just hoping they will find their way to my new house and if not that the new owners of this house will continue to feed them. I'm leaving a note for her to keep up the feeding of the rabbits, birds and the hummers too! I'm sure they will all find our new house! LOL

Very pretty. We feed bread to the birds, but it is home made with no preservatives so not so bad at all.

Lorna Appleby said...

Unfortunately, Lori, its not the preservatives. The bread itself offers ZERO nutrition to birds, and fills them up so they don't eat. :( Its so very bad for them.

In a pinch, cheerios will do. But you can get wild bird seed (if you can't find the goose/duck specific) at most "super" grocery stores, you can find both at Petsmart.
