Our Easter Wish and Thank You

"Below is a true story about a bunny named Marshmallow. Like Marshmallow, Hannah and I were Easter bunnies that people no longer wanted. Luckily we were taken in by a rescue lady and Mama was able to find us and bring us to Bunnyville. All of mama's bunnies were living in the homeless shelter when she adopted them."

"From the purchases you make in our SHOP, Mama donates money every single month to The Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary to help other bunnies that are waiting for loving families. Thank you soooooooo much!"

"Our Easter wish is for more of our bunny friends, in the homeless shelters, to find their forever homes with kind and loving people. Homes were there is a nice place to sleep and play, lots of proper food and companionship. Bunnies are an 8 - 12 year committment. Hannah and I were ready for the committment and so happy Mama adopted us."

"We love you and thank you very much for helping Mama support our friends in the homeless shelter. Oh and the nice lady that took care of us before Mama came? Well, Mama supports her rescue too!"

Happy Easter!
xx, Harrington and Hannah

Shell, Thank you for sharing about the Bunnies!! More people need to think about getting a bunny before they do. Thank you for helping with donations to the shelter.. That last picture of Harrington & Hannah just tugs at my heart!! You can tell they are loved! Can see it in their eyes..

People like Marshmallow's former "family" make my fists clench. I adopted Mr. Mick from our local humane society, and every year on his birthday and Christmas, I make a donation to them in his name to thank them for all the good work they do and enable them to keep doing that good work so that other buns may know the joy of a good home.

Happy Easter to you two snugglebuns and your wonderful mama and papa. Smooches and hugs from your Auntie Jade and nose bonks and bunny kisses from Cousin Mickey!

A very timely message at this time of year Shell, people don't stop to think what it means to be a pet owner when they are looking at that cute little bunny and thinking of how their kids will love it. Our furry friends depend upon us for everything; food, water, shelter and, most of a,ll love and companionship. If you can't make the commitment to give them what they need and DESERVE, then don't buy that bunny, chick, kitten or puppy. You are a good woman to support the bunny shelter and Hannah and Harrington are VERY lucky bunnies to have found your wonderful and loving home. Happy Easter my friend! Deb

Hi, Michelle, Hannah & Harrington:'
I was moved to tears reading Marshmallow's story. I had no idea that there were bunnies in this dilemma like you both and Marshmallow and so many others. It's wonderful to know about the Bunny Sanctuary and I hope there are more.
I'd love to be able to post a link to this story on my blog if you will let me. I want more people to know about this.
Hugs To All of You,
Susan

Thank you for posting Marshmallow's story. People do not realize how different domestic rabbits are from their wild cousins. I used to raise and show pedigreed mini lops and was appalled when I would hear someone say that their rabbit would go in the stew pot if it lost the show. Not my bunnies! My kids often said they wanted to come back as one of my bunnies! While their cages were wire, there were boxes with partial lids for shelter, always packed with straw, the best pellets in the area, fresh timothy hay, dandelion and raspberry leaves as well as plantain, Cheerios occasionally, and lots of love. My neighbor could not believe their personalities. They would follow me around the yard like a puppy and my dogs - Beagles - never bothered them, just snuggled up to them. Sadly, too many are thrown away after the novelty wears off. I never sold a bunny for Easter, ever. Bless you for caring for these so fragile critters. They are so deserving.

I could scream at Marshmallow's first family - HOW can people be so cruel to an animal? Unfortunately, Marshmallow's story will be repeated every year. Thank you for supporting such a worthwhile cause, and bringing it to our attention!

So sad :( I work at a bunny orphanage (Runaway Rabbit Orphanage in melbourne) and it breaks my heart to see so many unwanted rabbits. All I can do is give them as much love and attention as I can when I go in on Mondays, and tell the world about proper bunny care and commitment. Thank you for rescuing these buns xxxxx

Hannah & Harrington, your mama is so lucky you were ready to make the committment to come to your forever home with her, You obviously give mama & us much joy and now have the great home you deserve. What a great Easter it would be if no little bunnies ended up like Marshmellow this year. We can only hope & help. Much love, Tracee xx

Shell, reading your post just about broke my heart. One of my rescues was badly neglected too, she came to me as skin and bones, and as for poor Harry, he was hurt by his owners. "Luckily" Colin was just unwanted but hadn't been mistreated or neglected and Miss Tiff lords it over all of them as she was a pet=shop buy back before I knew about bunny rescues. All four of my bunnies are given the very best of everything and I adore them. It breaks my heart to think of other poor bunnies out there being mistreated, neglected or unloved. If I ever win the lottery, I'll be setting up the biggest bunny sanctuary you've ever seen!

Shell - such a timely post and I just wish all the young parents with kids could read your blog. A loving spirit, commitment and a kind heart is what it takes to own a pet -all animals deserve this. Purchasing them is not just for now - it IS for their life. Just breaks my heart when I hear these stories. Thank you - Judy C

Thank you for sharing this story, and for the valuable lesson that live bunnies don't make good Easter gifts. That poor bunny.
