12 of Hearts BOM! A Giveaway and to sash or not to sash!

Helloooooooooooo everybun! :) Here we are in July already and I must secretly tell you that I'm ready for Fall. I'm not much of a Summer person. It's very hot where I live and frankly, my shirt covered in sweat is just kinda icky, plus there are lots of bugs that scare me! I like soft, fuzzy, critters, not biting critters that give me a rash!

Fall is my favorite time of year. I guess because it just feels so cozy like a quilt. I love the crisp air, the colors, the smells...ok...only a few months to go. It will be here before I know it. Plus I can wear my favorite outfit again, bluejeans and cowgirl boots! Yipeee!!

Sooooooooo, here is the July block in our 12 of Hearts series. Are you having fun yet? Are you keeping up? Are you just starting????

Ok...so now I gotta come clean about something. I got a major "wild hare" the other week and ripped apart all my blocks from the sashing!! Yeeeeeeeeeeesss I did! Like the crazy bunny I am, I decided I didn't want sashing between my blocks. Maybe it was just the fabric, but the more blocks I made, the less I liked the sashing. However, if you have already started your sashing and you love it, then by all means keep it! I will provide finishing instructions for sashing and without sashing. Soooooooooo, the question for you is, to sash or not to sash? I'm interested to hear what you decide. :)

Here is what they look like without the sashing. I'm planning a patchworky kinda border.

Remember, you can join this BOM anytime and I have the floss kits, linen, needles, etc. available in my SHOP. The bunnies and I truly appreciate all your support of our business!

Next on to our giveaway! Woo hoo! This month I decided it would be fun to giveaway my Within the Heart Pillow! Just leave a comment on this post. As always, our beloved follower-friends, that have signed up on the right sidebar, will receive two chances! And as always, we love our friends from all over the world, so this giveaway is open to everyone! I sell the pattern in my SHOP if you want to make one for yourself.

The winner will be chosen from the random number generator on Monday, July 18th.
Good luck and let me know if you plan to sash your blocks or not!

xx,

Thee I was, staying up too late and your message rolls across! I would probably sash - with a different set of fabrics. I've been collecting the hearts hoping will have the opportunity to stitch them (grandniece babysitting takes up lots of time). Your pillow is beautiful!
Thanks for the monthly installment as know it takes work on your part to put these together.

I have been keep up. I have just used one color, so a sashing works. I think with your different color floss - it would be hard to find something other than black and that would make it look harsh. Would love to win your lovely pillow. I am a Fall person too. Cool weather, warm colors, crisp air, clothes that cuddle - and lots of Fall Festivals!

Ooh, want the pretty pillow!

You are a brave soul to rip apart your work and redo it; if I've gotten that far, I really have to not like something for me to undo what I've done. Then again, I've been known on occasion to pull out rows of work if I see one improperly done stitch, so I suppose I shouldn't talk.

Mr. Mick sends nose bonks and bunny kisses to his beloved Auntie Shell. He has a followup vet visit this morning (Tues.), so I will email you once we're back to let you know how it goes.

Love the Within the Heart pillow.

Haven't decided whether to sash or not - will wait till it's finished I think.

It is winter here and would be cold enough for you and last week we had a 4 day power outage due to very high winds. I think I envy you some of your heat!

I think this heart is my favourite one so far. Not that I don't like the others! They are all lovely. Thanks for the great giveaway Shell. Hugs, Christine

I haven't thought of sashing yet, I was waiting until all the hearts were stitched and I could see what looked best. Looking forwardto doing this months

I hate it when it's too hot and I hate it when it's too cold! I would prefer Spring and Autumn all the time. Thanks for being so generous with your giveaway, I love it. Linda

I'm a bit like you Shell. I love the cold weather and here in beautiful Adelaide, its cold.. Yay!
Thanks for the chance to win, I think I'll opt for the sashes.

I would sash. Maybe with narrower sashing strips and lighter fabric than you originally used.
I love the giveaway!

I, too, am ready for Fall....the Summer's heat isn't fun! Do love the pillow! Will decide about sashing at the very end...am usually waffling about it until I see all the blocks completed.

Sheila said...

I like the sashing and I also think it looks good without, it's probably a personnel preference. Your work is beautiful anyway.
Can't wait to get this one stitched up.
Love the pillow, and I'm a follower as well.
Give the bunnies hugs.

Hi Shell,

Just started mine this week. I actually enlarged my blocks by 25% and am working on an 8 inch base square so I can go in any direction the mood moves me when they are all done. My plan is to be caught up by year end since I am planning on using this completed piece for a Christmas gift.

Diane H said...

Hi Shell! Another great block! I'm with you - get this summer heat over with. Hugs to all and thanks.

I love your embroidered hearts and always look forward to your next design!! Please count me in for your pillow - it is gorgeous too!

Denise :) said...

Yay! The July heart is darling. I will probably sash mine -- but I've rotated the heart in the block so they're set on point. That's one of my favorite looks! Thanks for the follow, by the way! Hugs! :)

Love that pillow and your heart blocks are very nice. I visit every morning and enjoy seeing the bunnies and their antics. Carline

I think you can wear jeans and cowgirl boots all the time. I wear jeans and sneakers all the time. Then again, I generally stay in the AC ;)

Personally, I liked the sashing. No sashing seems like Shell regressing back to all-white!

Hi Shell... I would love to win the pillow because I did the "Within My Heart" stitchery and put it in the middle of my "Laundry Basket" quilt... It would look great together...Hop over to my blog and you can see what I did ... Hugs :)

Shell, I love your pillow and would love to win it! I'm a fall person as well! The heat really gets to me! I just visited my favorite country shop today to check out some new fallish items. I'd be happy if the months rotated from Oct to May to Oct to May :)!

I love summer and now is summer, yuppee!!

I had planned to sash my blocks but thought I would use some of the fabrics from a honey bun roll of fabric I have. I do like it without the sashing though. I guess I will wait and see. I love fall too but we have not had summer yet here in Washington State so fall needs to hold off for a while. Love the pillow in your wonderful giveaway.

Robin said...

Love your patterns! Although I have all the 12 of hearts months traced and prepped, I only have 1 stitched! I hope to be caught up soon though :) I think I'm going to sash!

Sheila said...

Thanks again for sharing this cute little BOM. I had planned on having sashing. I'm thinking if you were making two sets of each block you could do one with and one without sashing. Unfortunately, I have only made one set, but do have them all done up to this point. Have a great week!

quiltsbycheryl said...

I love your designs!! And I love the pillow!! I plan to use sahing also for the BOM....it makes the patterns stand out!!

RG said...

We haven't had summer yet!

My input about sashing ..

If you sash you must also shay ...

hi shell,
this is going to be my first quilt.
i've always been a stitchery gal. i don't know what i am doing. i have already bought the material you had suggested, but i can always use that on something else.
i may never have quilted before but my mother had me sewing on her machine by the time i was eight. can you believe the first project she had me make was a beach cover up out of terry cloth? i can still remember trying to pick out stitches in the terry cloth. i think i'm going to let you help me figure out how to construct this first quilt. i love the pillow, it's stitchery! of course i follow you. dodger sends quacks to hannah and harrison.

OHHH Shell, these hearts..well they are full of it as you are...heart that is..I just love this one...sew pretty...

Anne said...

The pillow is gorgeous! Love it! I haven't been participating in the BOM, but I think I need to get started because those hearts are enchanting.

I agree with you about being tired of summer. It's hot where I live, too. My grass is dying from lack of rain, and my air conditioner doesn't cool down part of my house adequately. Thanks for hosting such a wonderful giveaway. It takes my mind of this oppressive heat for a while!

Needled Mom said...

The hearts are adorable. I think I am going to have to jump in on this one. I think a narrow sashing would be perfect for them.

Your pillow is lovely. Nice work!

Those hearts blocks are fun. I have not done them since I am pretty new to your blog. Please don't add my name to the giveaway since I am have not been following long.
Love it though.

I usually sash my blocks. SOmetimes just plain strips of fabric, sometimes several strips of fabric and I just finished a small quilt that had squares of fabric used as sashing. I also am working on the snowman quilt that has no sashing in between the blocks but will use a feather embroidery stitch in between each one.

Have just found your blog, so now I will have to start these beautiful heart blocks. It's pretty cool in Brisbane, Australia at the moment, so I would love some of your hot weather over here. Thanks for the chance to win your beautiful cushion.

I would definitely de-sash, and do a decorative embroidery stitch over the seams between the blocks (like on crazy quilts). Probably would do the same stitch everywhere, so it wouldn't distract too much, but would add to the design.

Thanks for doing a giveaway!

Hey Shell,

I am so excited, I just got an idea with your hearts patterns, I am going to try doing them on jeans material. White is your color but blue is mine. I am working on a bedspead made out of old jeans and I can incorporate these into it. I need something rugged since we let our doggies sleep with us. LOL!

Love ya, Donna

P.S. I plan on working on getting my blog started this week.
