She made me wear a Dress, I want to hide under the Bed

So I get invited to this shin dig for my girlfriend that just made Captain in the Navy. I'm really proud of her and her accomplishment and I now fondly call her "Captain." She tells me it is the Nurse Corps birthday event and her husband does not want to go as he wants to go to a Harley motorcycle event. So I agree to be her date. But wait.....what do I have to wear???? A dress!!! Awww man....I hate dresses!!! I don't even own a dress!!! I haven't worn a dress in years!!! Gag!!!

I have been a tomboy my entire life and as I said in prior posts, I could wear blue jeans 365 days a year and be totally happy. Since I have worked in construction, never really go anywhere or have occasion to dress up, this usually works out great in my little life. But not this time. A dress...great...now I have to go and try to find a darn dress.

When I was a kid, my mom would make me wear a dress when we would go visit people. I would cry, and pout, throw a tantrum and go hide under the bed in the stupid dress. I wanted to go play kickball or climb a tree or build a fort with the boys, not sit all ladylike in a dumb dress being bored! This is me at age 9 in my favorite outfit. ;)

The problem is my size and my age. Women's clothes and even most petite women's clothes are too big for me. Dresses are the worst. So I normally head to the teens department. Let's just say a 42 year old woman in a dress made for a teenager is not a good look and now even the teenagers are more curvy and bigger.

My good friend, Lyd, spent an entire day with me helping me try on dumb dresses. She told me she hadn't laughed that hard in years. Of course it may have been the fact that I wore black socks that day and left them on with the dresses. She said, "Shell, I will never be envious of your small size again. While this has been hysterical, it has also been awful trying to "dress" you up." Don't I know it.

We finally found this dress in the teenager section and I figured we should go with it as it fit OK and Lyd didn't fall over laughing.

Dag....those are some seriously white legs and that bruise is still there from where I banged the pudd'in out of my knee!

All grown up and still a tomboy in a dress. I did this for you Captain...now I want to go hide under the bed.

What a good friend you are Shell. A pretty big sacrifice! This is something we have in common, no dresses......Are you going to keep the dress, just in case?

You're gor-gee-ous! More dresses for you! :) Jeans are great, but sometimes you need to "girl it up!"

I love the expressions on your face. Girl, you look awesome in your Little Black Dress. Unlike me, who will be searching for something special for an upcoming wedding in Wisconsin...due to my current size, I'll be on the lookout for a Big Ass Black Dress! lol Still working on my weight loss plan, so wish me luck!

Shell: You look fantastic! (I don't own a dress either - it's always denim on the bottom half of me, be it jeans or jean shorts.) I hope you enjoy the event -- you'll outshine everyone else!

You look gorgeous, but then you always do. From the title of your post, I thought it was going to be about dressing up Razzy or Sugie. That would definitely require hiding under the bed!

Aw, you look really nice, Michelle! Glad you found something, even if it was in the teenager section. I'm not really a dress person, though I'll wear long skirts. Maybe you need a special long skirt with rabbits on it (subtle, like your quilt) to wear on occasion...

This is my first comment. I recently found your blog and really enjoy giggling at your bunnies' antics and seeing the neat things you create and find.

It's the perfect find. Just pop on black stockings, and you're good to go. BTW, I can't believe her hubs wouldn't go with her. Well, his poor taste is your good luck.

I think you look lovely except for that sourpus expression on your face!!! And those shoes are really jazzy.

Just do your best to forget you're wearing a dress and you'll have a great time. Maybe a few drinks wouldn't hurt...

Shell! You are too silly! I think you look adorable. It slipped my mind that you are such a tomboy. With your feminine decor style I would expect you to like dresses. I love them. I collect them, lol, I have several I haven't worn.

Ah, when I read your great stories I know why I like you so much! Just sounds so like me! I have threatened to buy a new pair of jeans for my niece's wedding. Can't be doing with girly dresses!

You look really lovely.x

Oh, that is so me. I do own one dress: I have worn it four times, to each of my children's weddings. The last time was 20 years ago. Now it hangs on the bathroom door as a decoration, my "wedding dress."

When I went to school--you wore "dresses"--period!!!
Later I got into those dumb polyester pants--then at age 40 I tried on my very first pair of blue jeans--and not I am a blue jeans gal just like you--or cotton pants!!
I have a denim jumper in the closet--but it's been two or three years since I wore that!!! So U know how you feel---but Shell--you do look good in that dress--I would say the "dress was made just for you!!!" go have some fun!!!

Shell you look gorgeous and totally HOT - watch out for those NAVY guys at the party... hehe. White legs... not a problem - I'm sure that most of us gals fit that type since we all live in jeans/pants, etc.

take care sweetie - have a beautiful day!!

I think it was nice that you wore a dress for your friend's event. You look cute in the dress. Tomorrow, you can go back to your lovely jeans and be your regular Shell self.

Oh girl friend you don't know how many of us envy you that you can wear that size. I think it look great! Hope you enjoyed event. BTW I loved the pony photo! And, didn't get to comment but loved the redecorated that Razzy did even though Sugie didn't like it. Say a pray for me and my little buns. I am moving them to the new house tomorrow. Here the weather is nice enough most of time they can stay out but at the new house I don't have a great shade tree for them so I am having to make do. Hopefully everything will be set up and they will love the new place. Tell the kids to pray for them! Have a great Wednesday. And if you get a wild hare be sure and share it with us!

It'll work - keep the dress. Isn't a little black dress one of those "must haves" ..

Sugie can do magic like Winston!!! Maybe they were separated at birth.

This totally cracked me up. I went through a similar episode trying to find a formal dress for my nieces wedding. It was suggested that if I wanted a smooth figure that I should try the product “Spanx” as an underneath garnet. Let’s just say, me trying on “spanx” made me and my girlfriends laugh so hard. If you can get them on, you can not easily remove to go pee, etc. they may suddenly roll down and up simultaneously like a giant rubber band squeezing the day out of you, etc...
